Philadelphia High School Students Recognized by President Obama for Building Fuel Efficient Vehicles

Students from West Philadelphia High School, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, were invited to the White House for a presidential briefing on education and innovation where the President singled out the West Philly Hybrid X Team for recognition of work the students did in creating a fuel efficient vehicle for a national competition called the X Prize.

The West Philly Hybrid X Team (EVX Team) includes students who are part of a program of the Academy of Automotive and Mechanical Engineering, a career technical education program of Philadelphia Academies, Inc. They are based in West Philadelphia High School, a public high school serving one of the most disadvantaged neighborhoods in the city of Philadelphia.  The team was started 13 years ago to engage students around math and science in a new ways, an important aspect of career technical education.
