Recording Link and PPT now Available for NASDCTEc Webinar Ins and Outs of Advocating with Nancy Conneely

September 16th, 2011

The recording link and PowerPoint are now available for the recent NASDCTEc webinar, The Ins and Outs of Advocating – which was broadcast September 14.

Recent cuts to the Perkins Act and the threat of further cuts to all discretionary programs reinforces the need to let Congress know that CTE programs are vitally important to preparing individuals for careers and turning around the economy.

NASDCTEc’s Public Policy Manager, Nancy Conneely walked through how to be an effective advocate for Perkins and CTE. She shared “while many use the terms “lobbying” and “advocating” interchangeably, there is a difference. So, even if your state prohibits you from lobbying, there are still things you can do to bring attention to the importance of CTE at a time when it is needed more than ever.”

Upcoming NASDCTEc Webinar: Investment in CTE: Linkages to Greater Earnings, Higher Employability, and Positive Benefit-Cost Ratio

September 12th, 2011

Policy makers today must direct scarce funds toward education programs that produce maximum results, and reduce or even eliminate funds for programs that do not measure up. States and programs that demonstrate the positive impact of Career Technical Education (CTE) through return on investment (ROI) analyses can provide compelling reasons for policy makers to support CTE. Unfortunately, diminishing resources and unavailability of longitudinal data limit many states and CTE programs from carrying out ROI studies.

Join us as NASDCTEc’s Education Policy Analyst, Kara Herbertson, frames the conversation by highlighting state and organization cost-benefit examples that aim to show the value of CTE and education to the community and the economy. We are also pleased to have Kevin Hollenbeck, Vice President and Senior Economist at the W.E. Upjohn Institute for Employment Research, join us for this discussion.

NASDCTEc’s latest issue brief on the same topic, the last in our series of vision papers, will be available on the day of the webinar.

When: Tuesday, September 27th from 2:00 to 2:45 pm ET

What impact are the debt ceiling debates having on education? Will the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) be reauthorized in time for the new school year? Webinar Today: CTE and College and Career Ready Standards: Preparing Students for Further Education and Careers

May 9th, 2011

Only a few decades ago, schools and institutions generally tracked students into one of two paths: college or career. Today, the nation appears to be at a tipping point of unanimity that all students must be prepared for further education and careers. New expectations consequently require us to develop new standards that reflect our interest in preparing students in both areas.

Today, NASDCTEc is releasing an issue brief, CTE and College and Career Ready Standards: Preparing Students for Further Education and Careers, to illustrate how a state agency and an industry partner addressed integrating CTE with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).

Please join us this afternoon at 3:00 pm EST for a webinar to further discuss this theme. Robin Harris and Tom Foster will describe Kansas’ descriptive analysis study to examine the common elements between the Career Clusters Essential Knowledge and Skills Statements and the CCSS. Nancy Null will talk about Cisco Networking Academy and its framework for integrating and aligning CTE-related components with the CCSS.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Kara Herbertson at [email protected].
