Advocacy 101: Making the Case for CTE

Career Technical Education (CTE) teachers, administrators, and state representatives know the ins and outs of CTE programs and the positive impact that they have on individuals and the economy. The purpose of this on-demand webinar is to introduce you to the basics of advocacy so that you have the tools to support and promote your CTE programs – whether on Capitol Hill, with state policy makers, through the media, or in your local districts. We begin by reviewing why advocacy is important, and the difference between lobbying and advocacy. We’ll also share advocacy tips and resources to help you make the case for CTE with your local, state and federal policy makers and other CTE stakeholders.

Resources Now Available for Advanced Placement® Across the Career Clusters® Webinar July 25 Broadcast

Resources are now available for the July 25 webinar: Advanced Placement® Across the Career Clusters®.

PrintTraditionally Advanced Placement® (AP) courses and exams have not been recommended for students in Career Technical Education (CTE) programs. To bust this myth, NASDCTEc and the College Board worked together to draft a document – Career and Technical Education and Advanced Placement – that shows how AP courses and exams can be relevant to a student’s program of study across the 16 Career Clusters®.

This webinar featured that work, explored how AP courses and exams are being embedded in students’ programs of study at the local level, and engaged participants around additional strategies for including AP courses and other rigorous courses within CTE Career Pathways.

Recording Now Available for NASDCTEc Webinar on the Research Behind Branding Best Practices

When the CTE: Learning that works for America® brand was created, state Career Technical Education (CTE) offices were given the opportunity to be part of a national movement to change the image, definition and expectations for CTE. Through a series of interviews with the states participating in the branding campaign, the National Association of State Directors of Career Technical Education Consortium (NASDCTEc) has discovered that eight best practices in branding can elevate a state’s branding campaign and increase their chances of successfully communicating the brand message.

Dr. Melinda Lloyd discussed the research that was conducted and the key findings of that research. Two of the branding best practices – co-branding and engaging local educators – were highlighted during this Webinar. State staff from Arkansas, Oregon and Wisconsin shared examples of their branding efforts. The Webinar concluded with a brief introduction to a new set of resources on www.careertech.org that will serve as examples for states that are just getting started with their branding efforts or states that are hoping to take their branding efforts to a new level.
